The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested a senior Passport Superintendent for allegedly attempting to influence witnesses and mislead the probe in a disproportionate assets case.

According to officials, the officer—who earlier served at the Regional Passport Office in Ghaziabad and is currently posted at the Mumbai Regional Passport Office—was booked by the CBI on March 24, 2025. He is accused of accumulating illegal assets worth approximately ₹85,09,000 between 2018 and 2023.

During searches at his residence, the CBI recovered around ₹60 lakh in cash, along with records of high-value investments and expenditures that could not be justified through his known sources of income.

The agency stated that the accused repeatedly attempted to obstruct the investigation and influence witnesses. He was produced before a court, which remanded him to police custody till December 12.

The case continues to be under close scrutiny as further investigation is underway.
