The Delhi government is set to introduce dedicated rest rooms for ward attendants in major state-run hospitals, aiming to provide much-needed relief to attendants who spend long hours assisting patients.

According to hospital officials, many ward attendants work standing for 10–12 hours at a stretch, often without access to a proper place to rest or refresh themselves. Taking note of these challenges, the Health Department has decided to establish rest facilities to improve their working conditions.
The government is also coordinating with hospitals to ensure access to clean drinking water, subsidized meals, and assistance from NGOs that support patients’ families. Several NGOs are already active in hospitals, offering affordable food and basic aid to families who often struggle while caring for their loved ones.
The new rest room facilities are expected to be introduced in several major hospitals, including Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, Lok Nayak Hospital, GTB Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital, Ambedkar Nagar Hospital, and Raja Harishchandra Hospital.
Additionally, plans are underway to enhance cleanliness and maintenance operations to ensure a more comfortable environment for patients and their attendants.
Officials emphasized that ward attendants play a crucial role in hospital functioning, and improving their working conditions is essential. The government believes that providing such facilities will send a positive message to people across the country, especially those who travel to Delhi for medical treatment and often struggle with basic amenities like food and rest.
