Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav said that after uprooting lakhs of people from the JJ clusters with merciless demolition drives, the BJP Government was now targeting the villagers of Delhi as the sword of demolition was now hanging over the residents of the 300-year old East Mehram Nagar village, near the IG Airport, which the Congress party will not allow to succeed. He said that BJP’s sole aim was to uproot the poor to hand over their land to Adani and Ambani. He said that  Shri Rahul Gandhi has been fighting to protect the rights of the Dalits and the poor, and whenever and wherever he stood up to  get them justice, they got it, as the BJP Government was forced to change the laws and bend down to protect the interest of the poor. He said that the villagers of Delhi will not be scared of the lathis of the BJP Government and they will stand up and fight against the injustice being done to them. He warned that  Delhi Congress will not allow even a single house to be demolished at 300- year-old East Mehram Nagar, and the bulldozers would have to go past the bodies of the people if the BJP Government dares to deploy them to demolish the houses at East Mehram Nagar.

Addressing a Mahapanchayat of 36 communities from 360 villages at East Mehram Nagar, organised by the Yuva Gram Sudhar Sangthan, today, Shri Devender Yadav said that the BJP Government was anti-Dalit, anti-poor and Congress will take the fight of the residents of East Mehram Nagar  to its logical end, to protect their interest, as the temporary relief they got   from the court was not enough. He said that the pro-rich Rekha Gupta Government has  neglected the villages of Delhi without any development or civic facilities, as he himself hailed from a village, and was a victim of BJP’s anti-poor, anti-village policies. He said that the BJP Government’s focus has been city-centric as it had neglected  the urban villages and rural areas of the Capital, though Delhi was developed on the farm lands acquired from them at throw away prices, but now the villagers of Delhi have become strangers in their own lands.

Shri Devender Yadav said that it was not a mere coincidence that today was Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s birthday, who had sacrificed his life for the country by fighting against the atrocities of the British, and we need to fight like him as the BJP Government was also behaving like the British to uproot the residents of a 300-year old village of Delhi.

The Mahapanchayat was addressed by Shri Devender Yadav, AICC Secretary Shri Abhishek Dutt, former MLA Hari Shankar Gupta, Harnam Singh. Those who were present in the panchayat included Ex MLA  Vijay Lochav, Delhi Cantt. Congress Assembly Candidate Brig. Pradeep Upmanyu, Youth Congress President Akshay Lakra, DCC president Madan Khorwal, from Tihar Village (28)Advocate Sunil Kumar, Ex Cantt. Board Members Nand Kishore Beniwal, Sandeep Tanwar, Vinit Yadav, Naresh Sharma, Ch. Sunil Kumar and Sunil Sersia.

Shri Devender Yadav said that Congress was solidly with the villagers of Mehram Nagar in their fight to protect their  property and will not allow the Rekha Gupta Government to uproot them, as the demolition drive of  JJ Clusters was stopped after Delhi Congress put up a strong resistance.

Shri Devender Yadav said that the deaf and dumb BJP Government, which works for the interest of the rich and the powerful, should be shown the mirror with a forceful resistance for which the Congress will extend its full support to the people of not only Mehram Nagar, but also all the urban villages and rural areas of Delhi.
