Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav said that it was an open admission of the BJP Government’s failure to do any constructive work at the ground level when PWD Minister Parvesh Verma said  that the recent early morning downpour, which flooded most areas of Delhi, was a “wake-up call”, promising that desilting of all drains in the city would  be completed by May 30, though the stark reality is that the Minister has set an improbable target without taking any step  to clean the drains at the ground level, other than giving “instructions” to PWD officials.

Shri Devender Yadav said that though the entire Delhi got flooded during the recent heavy rains, including the busiest ITO area where traffic girdlock had resulted in heavy jams, the Minister seemed more concerned with the flooding at the posh Golf Links area, which falls in the NDMC area, without bothing about the plight of the common people.

Shri Devender Yadav said that the Kejriwal Government had misled the people of Delhi with false promises  without cleaning the storm water drains and sewers as money meant for this work was swindled by Kejriwal, Sisodia and other AAP Ministers, causing flooding and avoidable  rain-related mishaps, with over 40 innocent people losing their lives last year, and the BJP Government seemed to have taken a leaf out of Kejriwal’s corrupt copy book.

Shri Devender Yadav said that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ‘assured’ that the entire Delhi would be cleaned to make it garbage free in the coming 21 days, while the PWD Minister has also set a 21-day deadline to complete all desilting works, but the  people of Delhi know very well that like all other promises of the BJP so far, this work too will not be completed on time and Delhi will once again experience flooding when monsoon rains lash the city in the next few days.

Shri Devender Yadav said that when Congress was in power in the Capital, all the desilting works  used to be completed, and all filth, debris and muck removed,  by the middle of May, well ahead of the arrival of monsoon rains, as Congress believed in action, and not in empty rhetoric.

Shri Devender Yadav said that the BJP Government has not fulfilled any of its election promises after coming to power three months ago, and it should  now at least give priority to desilting work, re-carpeting of the dug up and broken roads, as the recent rains had sunk roads in many parts of the city where the roads were either broken or dug up to lay cables and other works, with the PWD not bothering to   repair the dug up roads.
