Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav said that Arvind Kejriwal’s decision to resign as Chief Minister was a welcome move, but he should have tendered his resignation six months ago, then the public of Delhi would not  have gone through a lot of crisis. He said that this looks like a “political drama” as the Supreme Court has already imposed restriction on him. “A new chief minister should be appointed as soon as possible,” Shri Devender Yadav demanded. He said that the public of Delhi is “aware and they will surely give an answer” to the Aam Aadmi Party’s misgovernance in the Delhi Assembly elections.

Shri Devender Yadav said that Kejriwal should   have resigned as soon as he came out of jail, as there was no point in clinging to the post of  Chief Minister with the apex court putting a lot of restrictions on him.  “Why is he waiting for two days?”,  asked Shri Devender Yadav, commenting on Kejriwal’s announcement that he will tender his resignation in “48 hours”.

Shri Devender Yadav said that Kejriwal had lost his moral right to continue as Chief Minister after he was sent to  jail in connection with the liquor scam, following his arrest by the ED (Enforcement Directorate) for money laundering and CBI for corruption, as governance took a back in the past six months, with people going through untold suffering due to waterlogging, water shortage, garbage pile up and deaths due to drowning in flood waters and electrocution, as nearly 40 people had lost their lives in the past two months in rain related mishaps.

Shri Devender Yadav said that when Kejriwal could promptly sack  Manish Sisodia as Deputy Chief Minister following his arrest in connection with the liquor scam, and Satyender Jain as Minister when he was jailed, he should have resigned too when he was put behind  bars, but clung to the CM post so that his family could live in the palatial official residence.  He said that the big question now was would he move out of his official residence after resigning as CM, and allow the new Chief Minister to move into the official residence, or make a family member the CM so that he could continue to enjory the luxury of the CM’s official residence?

Shri Devender Yadav said that the people of Delhi have already suffered enough due to the intransigence of Kejriwal to resign as CM.
